My Secret to Drinking More Water
Did you know that the human body loses 2 liters of water every day?
Did you know that thirst is one of the LAST signals our body gives us when we are dehydrated?
Did you know that caffeine (the world’s drug of choice) actually dehydrates our body, requiring us to consume EVEN MORE water to maintain hydration?
If you have like most people, you are probably not drinking 2 liters of pure water daily and are realizing that you may chronically dehydrated…. So what’s the big deal?
3 Reasons Your Should Care About Your Water Intake
1. Bloating. That’s right, our bodies will actually hold on to water in our tissues giving us an overall “puffy” look if we are dehydrated. Drinking more water will help flush retained water out of your cells for a leaner look.
2. Hunger. Most of the time we feel hungry, we are actually thirsty. Drinking more water will keep you full between meals and help you avoid mindless snacking.
3. Metabolism. Our body’s #1 goal is to survive and when you have unpredictable eating and drinking habits your body will slow down functioning in order to preserve it’s resources. Drinking plenty of water will keep your body’s metabolism going. Bonus: Drinking ice cold water requires energy (i.e. calories) to warm up, giving your metabolism an added boost.
When we eat a diet abundant in fruits and vegetables we will be getting some fluids through the food, but it is still essential that we drink a minimum of 80 oz or about 2.5 L per day of water to avoid dehydration. If you’re aiming to lose weight, up your water intake to a gallon per day.
…”But water is SO boring” you say….
My solution: Infused waters. This is a calorie free, artificial sweetener and artificial flavor free way to spice up your waters. I use this cool water bottle called aqua zinger, which you can buy from my amazon store here. It’s great because it keeps the fruit pieces from getting all mixed in the water & gross. 🙂
